Word of the Day: Submission
Ephesians 5:1-2
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
How do I imitate Christ’s love?
Give up what I have, and am rightly entitled to, to sacrifice and serve others.
Ephesians 5:3-5
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Is this something I struggle with, or is this who I am?
Struggling with sin is part of growth, not struggling with sin and being OK with it is a warning.
Ephesians 5:8-14
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.
Embracing the light is embracing growth. Hiding is stagnation.
Ephesians 5:21
Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
The Big Idea:
The opposite of submission is not leadership. In God’s economy, leadership is servanthood therefore, leadership is submission.
Ephesians 5:31-33
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Leadership is taking responsibility for the maturity of your family.
