Be Part of Something Bigger Than You

Writer's picture: Skyline Church NJSkyline Church NJ

Why do we exist?

What is our purpose here on Earth?

Deuteronomy 6:5

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Ephesians 4:11-12

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ

How are you fulfilling The Great Commission?

“Real Ministry”

Assumption: I am just one of the sheep and not "shepherd" material.

The Great Commission

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Mark 16:15 (NLT)

Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.

What does God want me to do?

If God has a ministry for me, what is my ministry?

I want to serve.

I just don’t know how?

4 Principles to Discovering Your Ministry

1.     Principle of Lordship

Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The Request: “I beseech you, therefore, brethren.”

To beseech is to request urgently or implore (plead with).

The Reason: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by, the mercies of God.

The Requirement: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God. That you present your bodiesas a living sacrifice.”

The Result:

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,

2.      Principle of Membership

Romans 12:4-5

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.

As we have many members of one body, not all the members have the same function.  But without the other, the body would not function.

3.      Principle of Stewardship

LIE: I’m not usable. God can’t use me. He’s got no place for me.

Romans 12:6-8

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

4.      Principle of Fellowship

Romans 12:9-13

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
