Word of the Day: Conversation
The Question: If you couldn’t ask God for a thing, would you have anything to talk to him about?
The Big Idea: It is inevitable, that during your faith journey with God, habits will creep into your spiritual life that God never intended. Therefore, you will have to be intentional about re-shaping them.
Observations:
1. Prayer is not a show.
2. Prayer is not about repetition.
3. Get rid of the empty phrases.
4. The Lord’s Prayer is only the beginning.
The Lord’s High Priestly Prayer:
Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
~ John 17:5
Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you.
~ John 17:11
I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
~ John 17:20
Paul’s Prayers
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father…
~ Ephesians 3:14
The Illustration
This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ, and the church are one.
~ Ephesians 5:32
Homework:
1. Where is this NOT a conversation?
2. What are the empty phrases I’m bringing in?
3. Is my conversation dominated by needs or am I sharing my heart with him?
