Luke 16.29
“Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
Luke 16:30
“‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’”
Luke 16: 19-21
“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luke 16:31
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Big Idea: The best way to prepare for death is to:
1. Live for the next life now.
The Bible says our earthly lives are a “mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” James 4:14
2. Never trust in your money, high position, or skills as a sign of success.
“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. Luke 16:25
3. Act on God’s word now; waiting is deadly.
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” Luke 16:31
John 12:9-11
Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.
